Together with Royal Institute of Art MFA-graduate Lode Kuylenstierna, C-print proudly presents the premiere screening of The Sane Society, a new short film project by the artist/ filmmaker. The work is lent its title by noted psychoanalyst and sociologist Eric Fromm’s ‘The Sane Society” (1955) and departs from a recent social media phenomenon of “Self-talk”. Each fragment in the series, varying between 30 to 180 seconds in length and set in distinctive locations that for various reasons have etched on the artist’s mind, sees an individual vocally self-addressing a personal challenge or aspiration in a repetitive mantra reminiscent fashion. The work is marked by a sense of familiarity. At the core, there’s the universal pursuit of striving for a better self – actively shaping life instead of being shaped.

Lode’s practice sees him seamlessly working across several disciplines including film, sculpture, installation and painting. His feature length documentary film ‘Homo Sacer’ (2015) stemming from an incident during the London riots in 2011, was notably screened and praised at international film festivals including CPH:Dox, Krakow Film Festival and Gothenburg International Film Festival. Running along the lines of human and social conditions with the notion of twinhood recurring throughout his body of work, several past projects have been brought forth in collaboration with Dag Kuylenstierna, his fictional twin brother.

We hereby present Mother, the first fragment of The Sane Society. Over the course of the year, new fragments will be presented on the C-print site periodically. Each fragment film can be viewed independently or seen as unfolding chapters making part of a larger narrative.
